BPL Medical Technologies and All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, have formalised the technology transfer of an AI-powered mammography technology, marking the next stage in efforts to develop and upgrade the technology for use in mammography equipment.

The technology transfer ceremony was held at AIIMS Delhi and brought together senior leadership from both institutions to outline the future development and clinical application of the technology.

Under the agreement, BPL Medical Technologies, in collaboration with AIIMS, will further develop the AI technology for deployment within mammography equipment. The initiative will focus on strengthening the role of artificial intelligence in breast imaging and advancing the technology for clinical use.

The partnership combines AIIMS Delhi’s academic research and clinical inputs with BPL’s capabilities in medical equipment development and manufacturing. The companies aim to take the technology across India, with particular emphasis on improving access in tier-2 and tier-3 cities and remote regions.

The ceremony was held in the presence of Prof. Nikhil Tandon, Director, AIIMS New Delhi, and Mr. Ajay Jindal, Chief Financial Officer, BPL Medical Technologies Pvt. Ltd. It was also attended by Prof. Govind Makharia, Associate Dean (Research), AIIMS; Prof. Velpandian, Head, IPR Cell, AIIMS; Prof. Smriti Hari, Professor, Department of Radiology; Dr. Krithika Rangarajan, Associate Professor, Department of Radiology; and Mr. Siddhant, Product Head – Digital Health, BPL Medical Technologies Pvt. Ltd., along with senior members of both organisations.

Commenting on the collaboration, Ajay Jindal, Chief Financial Officer, BPL Medical Technologies Pvt. Ltd., said the partnership would help adapt the AI innovation for mammography equipment and make it accessible in remote areas.

“BPL MedTech and AIIMS Delhi are collaborating to take this AI innovation further by adapting it for mammography equipment and making it accessible even in remote areas. We see this as an important milestone in our work to collaborate with academia to create access to practical medical technologies across the country,” Jindal said.

He added that AI was becoming an important component of medical imaging and could support radiologists through earlier intervention and more seamless workflows.
