Medtronic launches PulseSelect PFA system in India

New-generation cardiac ablation technology expands treatment options for atrial fibrillation patients, offering a non-thermal approach to improve safety and procedural efficiency

Medtronic has launched its PulseSelect Pulsed Field Ablation (PFA) system in India, marking a significant advancement in the treatment of atrial fibrillation (AF), one of the most common cardiac rhythm disorders and a major risk factor for stroke and heart failure.

The introduction of the technology strengthens Medtronic’s electrophysiology portfolio in India and provides physicians with an additional treatment option for managing AF, a condition that affects millions of people globally and remains significantly underdiagnosed and undertreated in India.

Despite the growing burden of cardiovascular disease in India, awareness and diagnosis of atrial fibrillation remain relatively low. Many patients experience intermittent or mild symptoms that often go unnoticed, resulting in delayed diagnosis and treatment.

The PulseSelect system utilizes Pulsed Field Ablation technology, a next-generation non-thermal ablation approach that uses short electrical pulses to selectively target cardiac tissue responsible for abnormal heart rhythms.

Unlike conventional radiofrequency ablation, which uses heat, or cryoablation, which relies on extreme cold, PFA is designed to minimize the risk of damage to surrounding tissues and structures while maintaining treatment effectiveness.

Chandrashekhar Jaiman, Senior Director, Cardiovascular Surgery & Electrophysiology Therapies at Medtronic India, said,  “At Medtronic, patients remain at the center of everything we do. By introducing this next-generation technology, we aim to support physicians with advanced tools that can help improve procedural precision, enhance safety, and ultimately improve outcomes and quality of life for people living with atrial fibrillation.”
