Royal Philips has received 510(k) clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for its next-generation reusable SpO₂ clip sensor, designed to provide accurate and reliable oxygen saturation measurements across a broad range of patient populations and clinical conditions.

The new reusable SpO₂ clip sensor is expected to be introduced in selected global markets later this year.

The new sensor incorporates internal optical enhancements aimed at improving signal quality and measurement accuracy, enabling clinicians to make more informed patient care decisions.

According to Philips, the device achieved an Accuracy Root Mean Square (ARMS) value of 1.6% during performance testing. 

The company also reported consistent accuracy across different skin tones, with measurement variation of less than 0.5% between individuals with light and dark skin pigmentation within an SpO₂ range of 85% to 100%.

Philips said the reusable sensor was evaluated under a comprehensive validation programme assessing performance across diverse patient populations, skin tones and various physiological and clinical conditions. 

The company noted that its testing approach aligns with evolving FDA guidance as well as international standards established by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC).
