SS Innovations International has successfully conducted a robotic telesurgery between Hospital Internacional de Colombia and Mohak Bariatrics and Robotics, Indore, across an approximate 22,000 km fibre network distance.

The telesurgery demonstrated the global capabilities of India's indigenous surgical robotics technology.

The milestone highlights the ability of the Made-in-India SSI Mantra Surgical Robotic System to enable expert surgeons to perform complex procedures across continents while expanding access to advanced minimally invasive surgery.

The robotic sleeve gastrectomy was remotely performed from Colombia by Dr. Sudhir Srivastava, Founder, Chairman and CEO of SS Innovations International, together with Dr. Víctor Raúl Castillo Mantilla and Dr. Jonathan Caceres Prada.

The patient-side surgical team in Indore was led by bariatric surgeon Dr. Mohit Bhandari, supported by Dr. Abhishek Tiwari. The procedure was completed with a network latency of approximately 275–285 milliseconds, demonstrating the precision, stability, and reliability of the SSI Mantra platform over ultra-long distances.

The achievement underscores the potential of robotic telesurgery to decentralise specialised surgical expertise, strengthen surgical mentoring and training, reduce geographical barriers, and improve patient access to complex procedures without the need for long-distance travel.

Dr. Sudhir Srivastava, Founder, Chairman and CEO, SS Innovations International, said, "This successful telesurgery between Colombia and India demonstrates that geography need no longer be a barrier to quality surgical care. Our vision has always been to build a Made-in-India robotic platform that not only delivers world-class clinical performance but also makes robotic surgery affordable and accessible to hospitals worldwide.”

“Every such milestone strengthens our commitment to decentralising specialised surgical expertise and bringing advanced healthcare closer to patients, wherever they are,” added Dr. Srivastava.

Designed and manufactured in India, the SSI Mantra Surgical Robotic System offers significantly lower acquisition and operating costs than many imported platforms, enabling wider adoption of robotic surgery across tier-II and tier-III cities as well as international markets.

Dr. Mohit Bhandari, Founder and Director, Mohak Bariatrics and Robotics, Indore, said "This procedure demonstrates how robotic telesurgery can transform healthcare delivery by connecting centres of excellence with hospitals across regions and countries.”

“As surgeons, our objective is to ensure that patients receive the best possible expertise without being constrained by distance. The affordability and versatility of the SSI Mantra platform make it a practical solution for expanding robotic surgery beyond a few elite institutions and accelerating its adoption across India and the developing world," added Dr. Bhandari.
