Aarti Drugs receives order from MPCB for closure of process at Tarapur unit

The HCl gas is generated continuously which is absorbed in the water scrubber using a chilled falling film system

Aarti Drugs Limited has received an order from Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) issuing Voluntary Closure Directions of chlorosulfonation process at PTSCL section at T-150 unit situated at Tarapur, Maharashtra.

During chlorosulfonation process at PTSCL section at T-150 unit, the HCl gas is generated continuously which is absorbed in the water scrubber using a chilled falling film system. During this operation, an incident of HCl gas leakage through the manhole of the scrubbing tank occurred on September 8, 2025. There is no injury or casualty reported. Considering this incident the Company has been directed by MPCB to voluntarily close down chlorosulfonation process at PTSCL section as a precautionary measure and safety purpose.

There is no financial or material impact. The manufacturing of PTSCL is for captive consumption as well as direct sale to customers. The Company has enough inventory of the said product and is well equipped to procuring the same from other suppliers if required.

The manufacturing of the other products at T150 unit will remain operational.

As per the directions by MPCB, the Company will conduct the safety audit shortly and obtain the required approvals from MPCB and Directorate of Industrial Safety and Health (DISH).
