The Indian Drug Manufacturers Association (IDMA), the oldest drug manufacturers' association is celebrating its Diamond jubilee celebrations with a two-day convention aptly titled, “Indian Pharma. Global Healthcare”

Addressing the media on the eve of the Diamond Jubilee Celebrations, Viranchi Shah, President of IDMA stated that, ``the aim of the two-day conference is to help the membership gear up for challenges in the years to come. If the pharma industry has to move from US $ 50 billion at present to US $ 130 billion by 2030 the industry has to gear up and meet the challenges and we have lined up distinguished speakers who can share their insights and educate the membership on trends and opportunities.”

He added, “we have engaged with the government on policies and issues to tackle industry challenges. We have also shared inputs on the PLI schemes with the government. Our aim is to make India the Atma Nirbhar on APIs and KSMs.”

Sharing his perspective at the press meet, Mehul Shah, General Secretary, IDMA, said, “Tech disruption has cut across industries and for the pharma industry it’s from manufacturers to patients. The pharma industry should brace for disruptions and it’s already happening. We need to build the leadership of tomorrow in order to compete with global players.”

He further added, “we have the capability to build five to 10 large pharmaceutical companies and it’s imperative that we focus on what would shape the industry in the next few years. We have lined up the best speakers in the industry who will throw light on the evolving trends in the pharma industry.”

President Shah said the industry needs to look beyond PLI scheme and what the industry needs are faster clearance. The association has been partnering with the government on steps that need to be taken in order to achieve this objective.

Mahesh Doshi, immediate past President of IDMA said that they have been championing the cause of protecting the local pharma industry. He added, “we need to safeguard our interests and protect the domestic industry from Chinese dumping.”

Sharing his thoughts on the convention, Daara B. Patel, Secretary-General, IDMA said, “we are supporting our members and encouraging them to adopt WHO GMP certification as a first step and then go for USFDA and other approvals for regulated markets. We conduct regular training programmes for our members and this has helped them navigate challenges in this space.”

He added, “we look forward to a wonderful two-day Diamond Jubilee event.”

The event is expected to be graced by ministers and senior officials from the government of India and state governments, promoter leaders, c-suite professionals, investors and industry analysts.
