Samsung Bioepis launches Aflibercept biosimilar OPUVIZ across Europe

The aflibercept biosimilar, referencing Eylea, becomes the company’s fifth directly commercialized biosimilar in Europe, expanding access to ophthalmology treatments

Samsung Bioepis Co., Ltd. has launched OPUVIZ (aflibercept 40 mg/mL solution for injection), a biosimilar referencing Eylea, in European market.

OPUVIZ is expected to enhance competition in the ophthalmology segment, potentially increasing treatment accessibility for patients.

The launch marks company's fifth biosimilar product to be directly commercialized in Europe.

Earlier this year, Samsung Bioepis initiated direct commercialization of BYOOVIZ (ranibizumab) and launched XBRYK™ (denosumab) 120 mg solution for injection, broadening its portfolio across ophthalmology and bone-related disorders.

“We are pleased to launch OPUVIZ in Europe, marking a significant milestone in expanding patient access to ophthalmology treatments,” said Antonio Rito, Vice President and Head of Europe at Samsung Bioepis.

“Leveraging our direct commercialization capabilities, we will work closely with healthcare professionals and payers to facilitate access to this important medicine, so that patients can benefit from quality-assured, safe and effective biosimilar alternatives.”

The launch follows a settlement and licensing agreement announced in January 2026 between Samsung Bioepis, Regeneron, and Bayer, covering the commercialization of the aflibercept biosimilar in Europe and other international markets.
