SIBUR to provide raw materials to Russian medical industry

SIBUR is developing a special grade of polycarbonate compatible with radiation sterilization

SIBUR and the biopharmaceutical company Pharmasyntez agreed on the joint development and supply of synthetic materials for a new production facility for consumables and equipment for hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis, the launch of which is planned in the Kaluga Region in 2025.

Against the backdrop of the departure from the Russian market of one of the largest suppliers of dialysis solutions, Pharmasyntez and SIBUR have developed solutions in the shortest possible time to maintain technological sovereignty and further develop the Russian pharmaceutical industry. SIBUR will provide the new production of Pharmasyntez with such polymeric materials as polypropylene and polyethylene.

In addition, for the production of dialyzer housings, SIBUR is developing a special grade of polycarbonate compatible with radiation sterilization, which is an important step in the creation of domestic world-class medical products. Completion of the development and testing of the formulation is expected in 2025.

Pharmasyntez is already successfully using the medical grade of polyethylene MG 013, developed by SIBUR for packaging infusion solutions using the blow-fill-seal (BFS) method, which is part of the import substitution strategy at the company’s site in Irkutsk.

Anton Prozumentov, Director of the Medicine Division, SIBUR, said: "The development of the Russian pharmaceutical industry is one of the significant areas of ensuring the country's technological independence. We actively support efforts to replace imports, especially in such strategically important industries as medicine. SIBUR pays great attention to the development and implementation of high-tech solutions necessary to create high-quality and affordable products that will replace imported analogues and meet the domestic needs of the Russian market."
