Sandoz launches renewable energy partnership

The agreement complements other PPAs for Sandoz production sites globally

  • By IPP Bureau | August 12, 2025

Sandoz has signed a 10-year virtual Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Elawan Energy for new solar projects in Valladolid, Castilla y León, Spain. The projects will have a total capacity of 150 MW and are expected to supply nearly 90% of the company’s current electricity needs across European operations.

Europe hosts most of Sandoz’s operations, and the partnership supports the company’s decarbonization strategy. Glenn Gerecke, Chief Manufacturing and Supply Officer, said the collaboration marks an important step toward reducing the company’s environmental footprint and supporting sustainable operations.

The agreement complements other PPAs for Sandoz production sites globally. In 2024, the company submitted a Commitment Letter to the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) to set science-based carbon reduction goals, with its plan due for validation by January 2026.
