Mahajan Imaging & Labs, a leading diagnostic network in Delhi-NCR and Jaipur, has launched a landmark study to improve mobility for individuals with flat feet and knee osteoarthritis patients.

Flat feet combined with knee osteoarthritis is a growing concern in India, with studies suggesting that roughly one in three to one in four adults over 40 experience symptomatic knee osteoarthritis. Misalignment from improper foot posture often accelerates joint wear and causes persistent pain.

The launch of the study was on the occasion of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, and in collaboration with the Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Institute for Persons with Disabilities.

The study will evaluate the effectiveness of custom-made foot orthoses in preventing tibiofibular rotation during weight-bearing, improving knee alignment, and enhancing long-term mobility for those whose daily lives are hampered by knee discomfort.

A key innovation in the research is the use of Standing Weight Bearing MRI at Mahajan Imaging & Labs, which captures the knee under real-life conditions—precisely when pain occurs. Participants will undergo scans at the first visit in full extension and 30-degree flexion, both with and without the orthosis.

Follow-up scans with the orthosis will be conducted six months later to measure changes over time. The goal is to generate robust imaging evidence demonstrating that personalized orthotic intervention can correct knee alignment, reduce the need for invasive treatments, and support functional independence.
