Ahead of World Hepatitis Day, Redcliffe Labs has announced a nationwide hepatitis screening initiative, organising more than 400 community screening camps across 220 cities between July 27 and 29 to promote early detection and improve access to preventive diagnostics.

The initiative comes at a time when viral hepatitis continues to pose a major public health challenge in India. An estimated 40 million people are living with chronic Hepatitis B, while 6–12 million are affected by chronic Hepatitis C, with many cases remaining undiagnosed until significant liver damage has occurred.

Designed to bring preventive diagnostics beyond hospitals and laboratories, the screening camps will be set up in residential communities, workplaces, educational institutions and public spaces to encourage timely screening and medical intervention.

Participants will have access to a range of diagnostic services, including rapid hepatitis tests, viral load assessment, liver health evaluation and specialised hepatitis panels. The initiative also aligns with the World Health Organization's (WHO) World Hepatitis Day 2026 theme, "Hepatitis: Let's Break It Down," by improving awareness and reducing barriers to testing and diagnosis.

Dr. Sonal Saxena, Director – Lab Operations, Redcliffe Labs, said viral hepatitis often remains undetected for years because many individuals experience no symptoms until advanced liver damage has already occurred.

"Early diagnosis can significantly improve treatment outcomes, yet many people don't get tested because they feel healthy. By taking hepatitis screening directly into communities, we hope to encourage more individuals to know their status, seek timely medical advice, and prevent avoidable liver complications before they become serious," she said.
