Apollo Hospitals Bangalore has become the first hospital in India to receive both the Comprehensive Stroke Centerand Comprehensive Chest Pain Center certifications from the American Heart Association (AHA), setting a new benchmark in emergency care for stroke and acute cardiac conditions.

The dual certification follows an independent assessment of the hospital's preparedness to manage patients with suspected stroke and acute heart attack, evaluating the entire continuum of care—from emergency department admission and diagnosis to intervention and critical care.

Unlike certifications focused on individual departments, the AHA programme assesses the coordination of multidisciplinary teams, including emergency physicians, neurologists, cardiologists, radiologists, interventional specialists, intensive care teams, and nursing staff.

D.P. Suresh, Incoming Chair of the American Heart Association's International Committee, said the certifications recognise hospitals that consistently meet internationally accepted standards for emergency care, noting that Apollo Hospitals Bangalore successfully fulfilled the rigorous requirements for both programmes.

Dr. A.N. Venkatesh, Senior Consultant, Head and Regional Director of Emergency Departments at Apollo Hospitals Karnataka, said the achievement reflects years of strengthening emergency response systems, enabling clinical teams to deliver timely, coordinated interventions when every minute is critical.

The Comprehensive Stroke Center certification recognises hospitals capable of managing complex stroke cases through advanced imaging, specialised neurological expertise, emergency interventions, and continuous monitoring.

The Comprehensive Chest Pain Center certification acknowledges hospitals that can rapidly diagnose and treat acute coronary syndromes, including ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI), where prompt restoration of blood flow is essential.

Akshay Oleti, CEO of Apollo Hospitals Karnataka Region, said the milestone demonstrates the hospital's commitment to combining clinical expertise with robust healthcare systems that ensure consistent, high-quality emergency care and continuous improvement.
