More men under 50 seeking help for low testosterone: Apollo Spectra Hospital

Specialists at Apollo Spectra Hospital, Bengaluru, have reported a significant rise in the number of younger men seeking medical attention for concerns related to hormonal health, sexual wellbeing and fertility.

According to hospital data, consultations for low testosterone, sexual health concerns and male fertility issues have increased by 40 per cent over the past three years.

Notably, 62 per cent of men seeking andrology consultations are below the age of 50, indicating a growing awareness among younger men about health issues that were traditionally associated with ageing.

Doctors at the hospital say that many men do not initially suspect a hormonal imbalance. Instead, they present with symptoms such as persistent fatigue, reduced libido, erectile dysfunction, unexplained weight gain, difficulty building muscle, reduced motivation and declining physical stamina.

The findings also point to a strong link between hormonal health and overall metabolic wellbeing. Among men diagnosed with testosterone deficiency at Apollo Spectra, 58 per cent were found to be overweight or obese, while 34 per cent had diabetes, prediabetes or other metabolic risk factors.

Additionally, 42 per cent reported chronic sleep disturbances or symptoms associated with poor sleep quality.

Dr. Bivek Kumar, Consultant Urologist and Andrologist at Apollo Spectra Hospital, Bengaluru, said, “What many men don't realise is that hormonal health and overall health are deeply connected. Fatigue, reduced libido or fertility concerns are often the first signs that something else is happening beneath the surface, and addressing them early can make a significant difference to long-term health outcomes.”

“Many men are proactive about their careers and finances but tend to put their health concerns on the back burner,” said Dr. Vinay N. Kaushik, Consultant Urologist and Andrologist at Apollo Spectra Hospital, Bengaluru.

“By the time they seek medical advice, symptoms may already be affecting confidence, relationships, productivity or fertility. Andrology is not a last resort; it is a first step. Earlier evaluation gives us a much better opportunity to identify the cause and address it effectively,” Dr. Kaushik added further.
