Aptar is expanding its Mumbai operations to manufacture key pharmaceutical inhalation technologies locally, strengthening its foothold in India and reinforcing its commitment to one of the world’s most dynamic pharmaceutical markets.
The expansion adds local production of Aptar’s pressurized metered dose inhaler (pMDI) valves, breath-actuated systems and multi dose nasal spray systems. The investment is designed to bring manufacturing closer to customers, improve supply reliability and enhance the company’s ability to respond to growing demand across India and Southeast Asia.
Gael Touya, Aptar President and CEO, shared, “As global pharmaceutical markets continue to evolve, India plays an increasingly important role in Aptar Pharma’s long-term strategy. This investment demonstrates our confidence in the market, our commitment to the region and our focus on creating a more agile and resilient manufacturing network closer to our customers.”
Aptar’s latest investment marks another milestone in its nearly three-decade presence in India. The company established its commercial operations in Mumbai in 1998 before opening its first local assembly facility in Rabale in 2012.
In 2020, Aptar expanded its Indian manufacturing capabilities with a Hyderabad facility serving the consumer packaged goods (CPG) market. The site produces a range of dispensing and packaging solutions, including dispensing and airless pumps, closures, fine mist spray pumps, aerosol actuators and valves.
The company strengthened its pharmaceutical manufacturing presence further in 2023 with the opening of a state-of-the-art pharma manufacturing site in Taloja to meet rising customer demand.
With the latest expansion, Aptar’s Mumbai manufacturing footprint has grown to 11,300 square metres, adding molding capabilities to its existing assembly operations. The enlarged facility is now an increasingly important component of Aptar Pharma’s global manufacturing network, expanding local production capacity while strengthening supply-chain resilience.
India’s rapid urbanisation, expanding healthcare access, investments in manufacturing and digital infrastructure, and rising disposable incomes are creating fresh opportunities for Aptar to deepen its market presence.
The expanded Mumbai operations are intended to strengthen customer engagement, improve regional supply capabilities and establish a stronger platform for sustainable growth across India and Southeast Asia.
Sanjay Kapote, President India & Head of Pharma-SEA, explained, “India is one of the most dynamic pharmaceutical markets in the world, and this investment enables us to further deepen our engagement with customers in region. It strengthens our local presence, enhances our ability to support customers across the region and builds a platform for sustainable growth.”
The expanded operations were formally inaugurated on October 5, 2026, at Aptar Pharma’s Mumbai site. The ceremony was attended by the Chairperson of the Aptar Board of Directors and members of Aptar’s Executive Committee, highlighting India’s growing importance in the company’s global growth strategy.
The expansion underscores Aptar’s focus on strengthening local manufacturing capabilities, bringing production closer to customers and building a more agile and resilient supply network to support the evolving needs of pharmaceutical markets across the region.
