Enodia Therapeutics strikes Pfizer deal worth $500 million to develop novel drugs

Pfizer will take responsibility for clinical development, manufacturing, regulatory affairs and commercialisation after the collaboration term

Enodia Therapeutics has struck a research collaboration and licensing deal with Pfizer Inc. worth more than $500 million in potential payments and royalties, as the biotechnology company looks to advance novel small-molecule therapies targeting disease-driving proteins.

Under the agreement, Enodia will lead discovery efforts to screen, optimise and develop Sec61 inhibitor candidates against multiple targets. Pfizer will take responsibility for clinical development, manufacturing, regulatory affairs and commercialisation after the collaboration term.

The deal gives Enodia an upfront payment, with additional research, development and sales milestone payments, as well as tiered royalties on net sales, potentially taking the agreement's total value beyond $500 million.

At the heart of the collaboration is Enodia’s proprietary platform, which modulates the Sec61 Translocon to target disease-driving proteins at the point of synthesis—before they can trigger pathological effects—while preserving essential physiological functions.

The company has developed a broad portfolio of chemical compounds across multiple Sec61 inhibitor families, backed by extensive biological datasets, including proteomics, cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) and specialised cell-line libraries. These resources support rational small-molecule design powered by machine learning.

“Enodia has built a broad platform that enables selective Sec61 Translocon modulation, a novel approach to inhibit disease-driving proteins while preserving essential physiological functions,” said Yves Ribeill, Chief Executive Officer of Enodia Therapeutics.

“We look forward to collaborating with Pfizer, combining their deep expertise and clinical resources with our approach for precisely targeting pathological proteins to bring forth potential new medicines.”
