Godavari Biorefineries has secured a patent from the Mexican Patent Office for its invention titled “Use of Compounds for Treating Viral Infections,” extending its intellectual property protection across another international market after similar grants in Japan and China.
The patent covers compounds that inhibit Vacuolar ATPase (V-ATPase), a cellular mechanism involved in the infection process of certain viruses, and their use in manufacturing medicines to treat viral infections. The research examines the role of V-ATPase in viral infection and its potential as a target for antiviral research.
The latest grant marks another step in the company’s efforts to expand the global reach of its life sciences research and strengthen its intellectual property portfolio in the antiviral space.
“We need to think of a new India, one that is confident in its ability to innovate and compete globally. Expanding our patent protection into Mexico, after Japan and China, marks another milestone in our promise to serve a larger global community. It reflects both the international reach of our research and our commitment to building high-impact life science solutions,” said Samir Somaiya, Chairman and Managing Director, Godavari Biorefineries Limited.
Sangeeta Srivastava, Executive Director, Godavari Biorefineries Limited, said the research has enabled the company to investigate how compounds that inhibit V-ATPase activity could be applied in antiviral research. The patent recognises a specific application of these compounds, marking an important outcome of the company’s work in the field.
The Mexican patent adds to Godavari Biorefineries Limited’s intellectual property in the antiviral compound class, reinforcing its life sciences portfolio and extending protection for its research across key international markets.
