Nadda underlined that India’s policy framework is aligned with this transformation
Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilizers, Jagat Prakash Nadda, stated that India is evolving from the "pharmacy of the world" into a global "innovator". Delivering a video message to the 11th Global Pharmaceutical Quality Summit in Mumbai, the Minister highlighted that this shift is anchored in scientific excellence, manufacturing resilience, and healthcare security.
Underscoring India’s growing leadership in the global pharmaceutical sector and its commitment to quality, innovation, and healthcare security, the Minister noted that India must anchor global supply chains not only through scale but also through quality, reliability, and innovation.
Referring to key government initiatives, Nadda underlined that India’s policy framework is aligned with this transformation. He stated that Biopharma Shakti initiative with an outlay of Rs. 10,000 crore, will position India as a global biopharmaceutical manufacturing hub, strengthening domestic production, expanding research capacity. Further, PRIP (Promotion of Research and Innovation in Pharma MedTech) scheme is driving innovation in new medicines, complex generics, vaccines, and advanced medical technologies, he added.
Nadda also highlighted the role of emerging technologies, particularly responsible use of artificial intelligence, in strengthening predictive diagnostics, pharmaceutical traceability, pharmacovigilance, and overall quality systems. Calling upon industry stakeholders, he stressed that quality must be embedded as a core organizational value rather than treated merely as a compliance requirement. He emphasized the need for continued investment in human resources, systems, and infrastructure to build a sustainable “quality-first” ecosystem.
The Minister reiterated India’s vision to emerge as a global pharmaceutical leader that combines scale with trust, innovation with collaboration, and growth with responsibility, thereby contributing significantly to global healthcare outcomes.
