The most advanced genomics facility in South Asia called the NKC Centre for Genomics Research was inaugurated in Hyderabad. The Centre, established by Nucleome Informatics will take up high-end research in gene sequencing and the highly advanced genomics research facility, and has the potential to take up genetic research in various fields including agriculture, animal husbandry, personalised medicine etc.

Launched in the memory of late Member of Parliament from Khandwa, Madhya Pradesh, Nandkumar Singh Chouhan, the NKC Centre for Genomic Research will take up the sequencing of 5,000 Covid genomes and 500 human genomes in the coming months.

Soon, yet another chapter of NKC Centre for Genomics for researching genetics will be launched in Indore, the MD and CEO, Nucleome Informatics, Dushyant Singh Baghel said during the inauguration.

The MD credited Nandkumar Singh Chouhan for motivating them to set up their research facilities in India, rather than moving the venture to San Diego, United States. “With the addition of NovaSeq 6000 and GeneTitan platforms, the laboratory will play a critical role in expanding the scope of our in-house services and allow seamless cross-platform services,” he said.

“The laboratory will play a critical role in expanding the scope of our in-house services and allow seamless cross-platform services. We will soon begin to provide our in-house Dr Seq suite of predictive genomics products in healthcare to analyse the data of RNA sequencing – we expect this will improve the understanding and uptake of personalized/precision medicine in India,” Baghel added.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, through a live virtual meet, congratulated Nucleome Informatics. “I am especially proud of this facility because it is dedicated to Nandkumar Singh Chouhan (Nandu Bhayya) who played a huge role in the development of MP,” he said.

Several other senior leaders including Rajya Sabha MPs Ajay Pratap Singh, Rajendra Gehlot, Secretary, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Atul Chaturvedi and others were present in the virtual inaugural meet.
