Union Health Minister says India’s healthcare model blends traditional wisdom with modern science, backed by Ayushman Bharat and Janaushadhi expansion
Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda on World Health Day underscored the government’s continued emphasis on preventive and promotive healthcare, calling for healthier lifestyles and stronger public participation in building a healthier nation.
In a message posted on X (formerly Twitter), Nadda said the occasion serves as a reminder to adopt balanced lifestyles and take better care of personal health, while noting that India’s healthcare approach increasingly combines “age-old wisdom with modern science” to improve outcomes at home and globally.
He highlighted flagship schemes such as Ayushman Bharat and Pradhan Mantri Bharatiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana, saying they have played a pivotal role in making healthcare more accessible, affordable, and inclusive for citizens across the country. The minister reiterated that strengthening primary care and affordable medicines remains central to the government’s public health strategy.
Nadda also acknowledged the contribution of doctors, nurses, and frontline healthcare workers, crediting their dedication for reinforcing the resilience of India’s healthcare system.
The statement aligns with this year’s World Health Day 2026 theme, “Together for health. Stand with science,” which calls for science-led public health action, stronger prevention frameworks, and collaborative health systems.
