Academia-industry partnership to promote indigenous technology commercialization in biotech sector
National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER), Raebareli has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), Confidential Disclosure Agreement (CDA), and Technology Transfer Agreement with Lofty Laboratories, Hyderabad, to promote collaborative research, innovation, and technology commercialization.
The partnership is expected to strengthen academia-industry collaboration in pharmaceutical and biotechnology research.
As part of the agreement, Lofty Laboratories will adopt an industry-ready technology developed at NIPER-Raebareli for further development and commercialization. Both organisations will also jointly undertake research and development activities in areas of shared interest.
Prof. Shubhini A. Saraf, Director of NIPER-Raebareli said the collaboration and technology transfer agreement would help both institutions complement each other’s research capabilities, including joint participation in initiatives under the Institute’s Centre of Excellence on Novel Drug Delivery Systems (CoE-NDDS).
Prof. Saraf further highlighted the significance of the technologies being developed at the Centre of Excellence and expressed optimism that several more innovations from the institute would be ready for technology transfer by the end of the year.
Prof. Nihar Ranjan, Head of CoE-NDDS, noted that commercialization of the current technology could substantially reduce the cost of gel-staining agents widely used in biological research, particularly in studies related to genes, cancer, and nucleic acid-based diseases. He added that indigenous manufacturing of such advanced gel-staining agents would contribute to strengthening India’s pharmaceutical and biotechnology ecosystem.
