Telangana’s life sciences sector has surged to a staggering $145 billion valuation after attracting more than Rs. 84,000 crore in investments in just two years, marking the fastest expansion phase in the state’s history.

The milestone was spotlighted at the 7th Board Meeting of the Telangana Life Sciences Foundation (TLSF), chaired by Industries & Commerce Minister D Sridhar Babu, where officials hailed Hyderabad’s rapid emergence as a global life sciences powerhouse.

Presenting a decade-long growth review, TLSF CEO Shakthi M Nagappan described the last two years as a defining turning point for the sector under the leadership of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu.

The numbers underline the transformation. Since 2016, Telangana’s life sciences ecosystem has nearly tripled in size, with Hyderabad cementing its position as one of the world’s leading hubs for pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, medical technology and health-tech innovation.

In a major global distinction, Hyderabad is now home to technology and innovation centres of nine of the world’s top ten life sciences companies — making it the only region outside the United States to achieve the feat.

Officials credited the growth to aggressive policy support, global partnerships and institution-building initiatives that have turned Telangana into one of the world’s most integrated life sciences ecosystems.

The Board unanimously praised Nagappan’s leadership during the sector’s high-growth phase and formally recorded its appreciation for his contribution. Members also welcomed the government’s decision to appoint him as Advisor (Lifesciences), while continuing his role on the TLSF Board.

"Telangana’s life sciences sector has witnessed unprecedented growth over the past two years. A focused ecosystem-building effort, anchored in strong institutional leadership and policy continuity has helped attract investments, forging global partnerships, and accelerating innovation and growth.

"We are at the cusp of the next phase of growth enabled by the initiatives in the Next Generation Life Sciences Policy." the Minister stated.

Even as most committed investments have already been grounded, the Minister pushed for faster execution of investment MoUs linked to the Green Pharma City project, which together account for nearly Rs. 20,000 crore.

The meeting also marked the introduction of TLSF’s new CEO, Sarvesh Singh, who outlined priorities for 2026-27.

The Board stressed the need to maintain the sector’s momentum by accelerating implementation of the state’s Life Sciences Policy and advancing flagship initiatives such as the Telangana School of Life Sciences.
