Former health minister Dr Harsh Vardhan visits Wadi Surgicals’ nitrile glove facility at AMTZ

Visit underscores push for self-reliance in essential medical consumables and India’s ambition to become a global medtech manufacturing hub

Wadi Surgicals, manufacturer of Enliva high-grade nitrile examination gloves, recently hosted former Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan at its manufacturing facility within the Andhra Pradesh MedTech Zone (AMTZ) in Visakhapatnam.He was accompanied by Dr Jitendra Sharma, Founder and CEO, AMTZ.

The visit focused on reviewing India’s progress in domestic manufacturing of critical medical consumables and strengthening the country’s path towards self-reliance. 

During the visit, Dr Harsh Vardhan appreciated the world-class infrastructure and medical technology ecosystem at AMTZ, which has emerged as one of India’s largest medtech manufacturing clusters. He also reviewed Wadi Surgicals’ state-of-the-art nitrile glove manufacturing facility, developed to support the country’s needs for essential consumables used by healthcare workers and patients. 

He said India should continue to scale up manufacturing capacity, drive innovation and work towards 100% self-reliance in essential medical consumables, with dedicated ecosystems such as AMTZ expected to play a pivotal role in this transition. 

Commenting on the visit, K Anindith Reddy, Co-Founder and Managing Director, Wadi Surgicals, said domestic manufacturing is a national security priority beyond being just a business objective. He added that every glove produced by the company represents a commitment to protecting frontline healthcare professionals while ensuring India remains insulated from global supply disruptions. 

The company said the visit further reinforces its mission within the AMTZ ecosystem of combining high-speed automation, quality compliance and human-centric manufacturing to build a safer and more self-reliant India in critical healthcare supplies.
