NITI Aayog has released two reports: “Ease of Doing Research & Development in India”and the “Survey Report on Ease of Doing R&D in India”—aimed at creating a more efficient, facilitative and innovation-driven research ecosystem in the country.
The reports are the outcome of a nine-month nationwide exercise, involving outreach to over 400 institutional leaders and insights from 850+ scientists and researchers, offering one of the most comprehensive assessments of India’s current R&D environment.
Released by NITI Aayog Vice Chairman Suman Bery in the presence of Dr. Jitendra Singh, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science & Technology, the reports outline actionable recommendations across funding mechanisms, institutional governance, regulatory frameworks, and research translation.
A key focus of the recommendations is to create a more trust-based, outcome-oriented, and flexible system that reduces administrative friction for researchers while encouraging stronger participation from the private sector and industry-led innovation.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Jitendra Singh emphasized the need for a research ecosystem free of impediments and called for greater private sector participation, including CSR support, particularly for emerging areas and startups.
The reports will now be shared with relevant ministries and departments as a guidance framework to strengthen India’s ambition of becoming a global leader in science, technology and innovation.
