Lonza launches RaMP to accelerate biopharma process development

Rapid Media Prototyping Service (RaMP) is designed to help biopharma development teams accelerate timelines, generate critical process data and prepare for subsequent GMP manufacturing

Lonza, a global contract development and manufacturing organisation (CDMO), has launched its Rapid Media Prototyping Service (RaMP) to provide biopharmaceutical companies with faster access to customised liquid and powder media for screening, process confirmation and early-stage development.

The new service is designed to help biopharma development teams accelerate timelines, generate critical process data and prepare for subsequent GMP manufacturing. Under RaMP, customers can order non-GMP powder batches ranging from 1 kg to 10 kg and liquid batches from 1 litre to 100 litres, with production possible within 10 working days.

Lonza said RaMP addresses several challenges commonly encountered during early development, including lengthy lead times for customised prototype media, limited options for small-batch manufacturing and the need to ensure that early formulation work remains aligned with future manufacturing requirements.

The service forms part of Lonza’s broader end-to-end custom media and buffer solutions offering, which supports customers across media development and screening, non-GMP prototyping and commercial GMP manufacturing.

By connecting early formulation and screening activities with future manufacturing requirements, the company aims to improve scalability, simplify technology transfer and reduce risks associated with process scale-up.

Omar Wahab, Vice President and Head of Bioprocessing, Lonza, said development teams are under increasing pressure to generate data quickly and make process decisions that keep programmes moving towards the clinic.

He said RaMP provides customers with rapid access to customised media in the quantities they require while connecting early screening and process confirmation with future GMP requirements.

According to Wahab, this approach can help reduce scale-up risk, simplify technology transfer and support a more efficient path towards commercialisation.

Delivered through Lonza’s global media development and manufacturing network, RaMP combines rapid turnaround times, flexible batch sizes and specialised expertise to support biopharmaceutical companies as they advance development programmes and prepare for scale-up and GMP manufacturing.
