Danone India sets record with 20,911 healthcare pledges to fight anemia

The record-setting effort stems from Danone India’s nationwide ‘IRON UP!’ campaign

In a major public health push, global food and nutrition major Danone India has secured a place in the Asia Book of Records after mobilizing 20,911 healthcare professionals across the country to pledge action against iron deficiency anemia.

The milestone marks one of the largest coordinated efforts by the medical community to tackle a condition that continues to impact millions in India. The campaign focuses on boosting awareness, enabling early diagnosis, and promoting targeted nutritional interventions to address iron deficiency at scale.

The record-setting effort stems from Danone India’s nationwide ‘IRON UP!’ campaign, launched in November 2025 to accelerate detection and prevention of iron deficiency anemia (IDA). At the heart of the initiative is the IDA Pledge Campaign, urging doctors and healthcare workers to take collective responsibility for improving diagnosis rates and driving preventive nutrition practices.

Through a mix of on-ground outreach and educational programs, the initiative has brought together pediatricians, general physicians, and other healthcare professionals, building momentum for a unified response to micronutrient deficiencies. The campaign aims to empower families with knowledge and encourage everyday action against iron deficiency—especially among vulnerable populations.

As part of its broader nutrition strategy, Danone India is also advancing science-backed solutions such as IronBiotics, formulated to support iron absorption and gut health, reinforcing its commitment to scalable health interventions.

Highlighting the achievement, Priyanka Verma said, “We are honored to be recognized by the Asia Book of Records for this impactful initiative. Securing 20,911 pledges from healthcare professionals demonstrates the shared commitment within the medical community to fight anemia, a condition that continues to affect millions.

"This sustained, community-led approach will transform health outcomes countless Indians. It reflects the power of collective action, where healthcare professionals, communities, and institutions come together to drive meaningful change. We are proud to support this movement, which not only strengthens the nation’s nutritional foundation but also positions India as a global leader in evidence-based, inclusive public health innovation.”

In parallel, the company has rolled out ‘Swastha Mata Swastha Balak,’ a year-long program in Bihar aimed at improving maternal nutrition and health outcomes for mothers and infants—groups particularly vulnerable to iron deficiency anemia.
