Vice-President calls for integrity in medical practice at AIIMS Rishikesh convocation

C. P. Radhakrishnan urged graduates to uphold ethical standards and maintain a commitment to patient care

The 6th convocation ceremony of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences Rishikesh was held in the presence of Vice President, C. P. Radhakrishnan, marking a key milestone in the institute’s academic journey and its role in strengthening healthcare education and delivery.

The event was attended by Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Anupriya Patel; Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Pushkar Singh Dhami; and Governor of Uttarakhand, Lt. Gen. Gurmit Singh (Retd.). 

On the occasion, the Vice-President released the institute’s annual publication “Rudraksha”, highlighting its academic progress, research initiatives and clinical achievements over the past year.

Addressing the gathering, Radhakrishnan described the convocation as a transition point for graduating students, marking both the culmination of their academic training and the beginning of professional responsibility. He urged graduates to uphold ethical standards and maintain a commitment to patient care.

He also referred to India’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, highlighting the scale of the country’s vaccination programme and its outreach through global initiatives such as Vaccine Maitri. He noted that the expansion of AIIMS institutions has improved access to tertiary healthcare and contributed to strengthening the country’s medical infrastructure.

Anupriya Patel emphasised the importance of ethics, continuous learning, communication and social responsibility in medical practice. She highlighted growth in healthcare infrastructure and medical education, along with increased public health spending and reduced out-of-pocket expenditure. She also pointed to the government’s focus on integrative healthcare models and the One Health approach.

Pushkar Singh Dhami said the convocation marked the beginning of a new phase for graduates and urged them to serve in underserved and remote regions, particularly in Uttarakhand. He also acknowledged the role of AIIMS Rishikesh in improving healthcare access in the state.
