Dr. Vineet Talwar elevated as Medical Director at RGCIRC

Dr. Talwar has been associated with RGCIRC for more than two decades and brings extensive experience in clinical oncology, research, academics and institutional leadership

Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute & Research Centre (RGCIRC) has elevated Dr Vineet Talwar as Medical Director, effective September 1, 2026. 

A senior medical oncologist, Dr Talwar has been associated with RGCIRC for more than two decades and brings extensive experience in clinical oncology, research, academics and institutional leadership.

Dr. Talwar was previously serving as Director of Medical Oncology at RGCIRC, where he has been associated with the Department of Medical Oncology since May 2000. 

During his tenure, he has contributed to strengthening the institute's oncology practice, clinical research, academic programmes and multidisciplinary cancer care.

His professional affiliations include the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO), American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), Indian Society of Oncology (ISO) and Indian Cooperative Oncology Network (ICON). He is also a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians, Edinburgh (FRCP).

In his new role, Dr Talwar will work with RGCIRC's leadership and clinical teams to strengthen multidisciplinary cancer care, quality standards, academic programmes and research initiatives across the institute.

“RGCIRC has been an integral part of my professional journey for more than two decades, and it’s an honour to take on this larger responsibility,” said Dr Vineet Talwar, Medical Director, RGCIRC. He said the institute will focus on integrating clinical excellence, multidisciplinary decision-making, research and compassionate care, while leveraging AI and other emerging technologies to support clinical decision-making and improve patient outcomes.

Dr. Dharmendra Singh Gangwar, CEO, RGCIRC, said Dr. Talwar's experience as a clinician, academician and researcher, along with his understanding of the institution, positions him well to take on the Medical Director's responsibilities.

He holds a DM in Medical Oncology from the Cancer Institute, Adyar, Chennai, and has authored more than 140 publications in national and international peer-reviewed journals. His clinical interests include genitourinary, gastrointestinal, hepato-pancreato-biliary and breast oncology.
