MSD has launched a nationwide cervical cancer awareness campaign in collaboration with Madhuri Dixit Nene to promote conversations around women’s preventive healthcare and encourage timely consultation with healthcare professionals.
The campaign focuses on increasing awareness about cervical cancer, one of the most common cancers among women in India. According to the Globocan HPV India Report 2023, nearly one woman dies every seven minutes due to cervical cancer in the country, translating to around 200 deaths daily despite the disease being largely preventable through early intervention and preventive healthcare measures.
As part of the initiative, MSD has released a series of digital films featuring Madhuri Dixit across online platforms. The films aim to spread awareness about cervical cancer, its association with the human papillomavirus (HPV), and the importance of consulting gynecologists and pediatricians regarding preventive healthcare options.
The campaign also highlights how preventive health discussions are often delayed until symptoms appear, stressing the importance of early awareness and proactive medical consultation. Through relatable and informative messaging, the initiative encourages women and families to prioritise preventive healthcare conversations.
Commenting on the initiative, Brecht Vanneste, Managing Director, MSD India region, said raising awareness around HPV and cervical cancer is an important public health priority that can help improve long-term health outcomes for women.
Madhuri Dixit said women frequently place their own health behind family responsibilities and emphasised the need for open conversations around preventive healthcare and cervical cancer awareness.
Through the campaign, MSD aims to strengthen awareness, education, and informed decision-making around women’s health and cervical cancer prevention across India.
