Genentech plans to invest approximately $750 million in a new device fill-finish manufacturing facility at its 75-acre campus in Hillsboro, Oregon, expanding the company’s capacity to produce advanced drug-delivery devices for its future medicines pipeline.
The Roche Group member said the investment will add end-to-end device-filling capabilities at the Hillsboro site and is expected to create 250 high-wage manufacturing jobs in Oregon. Another 200 construction jobs are expected during development, with commercial operations slated to begin in 2031.
The new facility will manufacture devices including pre-filled syringes and autoinjectors, which are increasingly used to deliver medicines outside traditional hospital settings.
Designed for flexibility, the facility will handle both high- and low-volume production across a broad range of Roche and Genentech medicines. That capacity will allow the Hillsboro campus to adapt as the companies’ portfolio and manufacturing requirements evolve.
The Oregon investment comes as Genentech expands its U.S. manufacturing footprint. The company recently marked the topping out of a new manufacturing facility in Holly Springs, North Carolina, which is being built to support global production of its future metabolic-medicine portfolio, including next-generation obesity treatments.
Roche and Genentech currently operate 13 manufacturing sites and 15 research and development sites across the United States, employing approximately 25,000 people across 24 locations in eight states.
The Hillsboro project underscores the companies’ push to expand domestic manufacturing capacity and prepare for the next generation of drug-delivery technologies and medicines.
