AstraZeneca Pharma India Limited has received an Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) rating of 57 from Crisil ESG Ratings & Analytics Limited, based on publicly available information.
The company disclosed the rating under Regulation 30 of the SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015.
AstraZeneca Pharma India clarified that it did not engage Crisil ESG Ratings for the assessment.
The rating agency independently prepared its ESG assessment using publicly available information relating to the company.
Earlier this year, AstraZeneca globally released the third edition of its Sustainability Impact Publication, detailing progress across climate action, nature restoration, health equity and health systems resilience, while revising its 2030 Scope 3 emissions reduction target to reflect the pace of decarbonisation across its rapidly expanding supply chain.
The company has updated its 2030 Scope 3 emissions reduction target from 50% to 35% relative to a 2019 baseline.
AstraZeneca says the revised target is designed to deliver the same absolute emissions reduction as the original goal, reflecting how the company is balancing the pace of decarbonisation across its supply chain against a period of significant business expansion.
Since 2015, AstraZeneca has more than doubled the size of its business, and Scope 3 emissions — which represent roughly 98% of its total carbon footprint — have grown alongside its expanding product portfolio.
Scope 3 emissions stem primarily from purchased goods and services (55%), patient use of products (26%), capital goods (8%), and transport and distribution (6%).
By contrast, the company's Scope 1 and 2 emissions (from its own sites and fleet) have fallen 88% since 2015 through its $1 billion Ambition Zero Carbon programme, even as revenue more than doubled over the same period.
