Manipal Hospitals Mukundapur launches advanced Neuro Biplane Cathlab

State-of-the-art facility brings next-generation imaging and minimally invasive neurointerventional capabilities to Eastern India

Manipal Hospitals Mukundapur, under its Neurosciences – Centre of Excellence, has launched a state-of-the-art Neuro Biplane Cathlab, marking a major advancement in neurovascular care in Eastern India. The facility introduces next-generation imaging technology and advanced endovascular treatment capabilities aimed at improving diagnosis and management of complex neurological disorders.

The new facility is expected to significantly enhance access to specialized neurointerventional services across the region, reducing the need for patients to travel outside Eastern India for advanced treatment.

The Neuro Biplane Cathlab is equipped with dual-plane imaging technology that provides real-time, high-resolution visualization of blood vessels, enabling clinicians to perform highly precise and minimally invasive procedures for complex brain and spinal vascular conditions.

The facility supports advanced interventions for acute ischemic stroke, brain aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations (AVMs), and other neurovascular disorders through procedures such as mechanical thrombectomy, complex embolization, flow diversion for aneurysms, and stent- or balloon-assisted coiling.

Dr. Sukalyan Purkayastha, Director and Senior Consultant – Neurointervention & Endovascular Surgery, Manipal Hospitals East Region, said, “The launch of the Neuro Biplane Cathlab is an important milestone in strengthening advanced neurovascular care in Eastern India. This advanced technology allows us to diagnose complex vascular conditions faster, plan procedures more accurately, and perform minimally invasive interventions with greater precision.”

According to global estimates, nearly one in four people above the age of 25 is expected to experience a stroke during their lifetime, underscoring the growing need for advanced neurointerventional infrastructure that supports timely diagnosis and treatment.

Dr. Nirmalya Ray, Senior Consultant – Neuro Interventional Radiology, Manipal Hospitals Mukundapur Cluster, said, “In neurovascular care, accurate imaging is the foundation for successful treatment. The Neuro Biplane Cathlab combines advanced imaging capabilities with a multidisciplinary approach involving neurointerventional specialists, neurologists, neuroradiologists, neurosurgeons, and critical care experts.”

“This technology will significantly enhance our ability to manage critical cases, where speed, accuracy, and clinical expertise are essential for achieving better outcomes,” Dr Ray added.
