Mumbai-based pharmaceutical company Wockhardt has launched the Antibiotic Academy, an open scientific learning platform for registered medical professionals across India, aimed at advancing knowledge and evidence-based management of antimicrobial resistance (AMR).

The platform will facilitate continuous medical education, scientific discussions and exchange of real-world clinical experiences among healthcare professionals. Wockhardt said the initiative is intended to evolve into a nationwide scientific movement by bringing clinicians together to strengthen the fight against AMR.

“There is an urgent need not only to have a new antibiotic like Zaynich, but also to have a science-based platform that fosters constructive dialogue on antimicrobial resistance and its appropriate management. It is essential to use the right antibiotic for the right patient at the right time,” said Dr. Habil Khorakiwala, Founder Chairman, Wockhardt.

He added that the Academy aims to deepen understanding of drug resistance and promote evidence-based solutions that can support better clinical decisions and ultimately save patients’ lives.

Dr. Subramaniam Swaminathan, President, Clinical Infectious Diseases Society, India, said advances in diagnosis, dosing, treatment duration and de-escalation have refined practices that were considered appropriate a decade ago.

“Any initiative that brings clinicians together to exchange knowledge and remain closely connected to science is a step in the right direction. Resistant organisms must be defeated—and patients must win,” he said.
