DFE Pharma is raising the bar on sustainability transparency with the launch of EcoLact 2030, a first-of-its-kind initiative designed to deliver verified CO₂ data and full value-chain traceability across its lactose portfolio.
As pharmaceutical companies intensify efforts to meet climate and ESG commitments, Scope 3 emissions remain one of the industry’s toughest challenges. These indirect emissions — generated across the value chain — are notoriously difficult to measure due to patchy data and limited supplier visibility.
EcoLact 2030 directly targets that blind spot.
The program provides pharmaceutical manufacturers with auditable, primary emissions data and verified proof of a 30% CO₂ reduction across DFE Pharma’s lactose portfolio — achieved without offsets or estimates. Backed by granular tracking and performance-based sustainability incentives for farmers, the initiative gives manufacturers hard data they can stand behind.
Crucially, the company’s lactose excipients verified under EcoLact 2030 remain unchanged in quality, performance, and regulatory compliance. That means manufacturers can advance sustainability goals without triggering new product requalification processes or operational disruption.
Customers using EcoLact 2030-verified lactose will also receive annual CO₂ reduction reports to support CSRD, SBTi, and broader ESG disclosures — turning complex Scope 3 accounting into a measurable, reportable advantage.
“EcoLact 2030 reflects our commitment to lead in sustainable sourcing without compromising the quality our customers rely on,” said Sven Abend, CEO of DFE Pharma. “By providing verified data and transparent practices, we enable measurable progress toward climate goals while securing the operational continuity of our customers.”
