West Bengal Chemical Industries Limited (WBCIL) has emerged as the only MSME in the country to be awarded the National Intellectual Property (IP) Award 2024 for “Excellence in Patent Filing, Grant, and Commercialization.”

The award, conferred by the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India Piyush Goyal, Justice Pratibha M. Singh of the Delhi High Court, and several distinguished leaders from the IP and innovation community.

“Innovation is the key to India’s march towards a Viksit Bharat,” said Goyal, highlighting the critical role that intellectual property plays in shaping the nation’s future.

Organized annually by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) and the Indian IP Office, the National IP Awards recognize outstanding contributions to India’s innovation economy through effective IP creation and commercialization.

WBCIL’s win under the MSME category marks a significant moment in the journey of Indian small and medium enterprises.

Adding to its recent accomplishments, WBCIL has also obtained WHO-GMP certification and Certificates of Pharmaceutical Product (COPP) for APIs including Ferric Ammonium Citrate B.P, Calcium Acetate USP, Calcium Citrate USP, and Ferrous Bisglycinate. These certifications reinforce WBCIL’s regulatory strength and pave the way for expanded exports to global markets.

Commenting on the recognition, Sunil Kumar Agarwal, Managing Director, WBCIL said, “We are deeply honoured to receive this award as the only MSME in India to be recognized for patent excellence. It’s a testament to our unwavering commitment to science, innovation, and delivering patient-centric solutions that are globally competitive.”
