Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyaan (PMSMA) has completed ten years of service aimed at ensuring safe pregnancy and healthy motherhood across the country.

To commemorate the occasion, Union Health Minister J. P. Nadda launched nationwide celebrations under the theme “10 Years of PMSMA – A Decade of Care”, highlighting the programme’s contribution to maternal and child healthcare since its launch on June 9, 2016.

Addressing the gathering, Nadda described the anniversary as a moment of pride for the nation and said the programme reflects the government's commitment to realizing the vision of Narendra Modi of ensuring safe motherhood and healthy newborns for every family.

“Over the last decade, PMSMA has not only strengthened maternal and child healthcare services across the country but has also laid a strong foundation for a healthier and more resilient India,” Nadda said.

Launched by Prime Minister Modi in 2016, PMSMA provides free, comprehensive and quality antenatal care services to pregnant women through specialist doctors on the ninth day of every month. The initiative seeks to ensure early detection and management of high-risk pregnancies while improving access to specialist care, particularly in underserved regions.

Speaking at the event, Union Health Secretary Punya Salila Srivastava described PMSMA as one of the most impactful public health initiatives undertaken by the Government of India.

To mark the occasion, Nadda also released a special Rs. 75 commemorative coin and a Rs. 5 postal stamp recognizing PMSMA’s contribution to strengthening maternal healthcare in India.

The event was attended by Anupriya Patel, Yvan J. F. Hutin, senior health officials, postal department representatives and Chief Medical Officers from various states.
